Body restoration
Body restoration usually refers to surgeries performed on women after childbirth. Many women enjoy being pregnant, but for some of them the changes caused by pregnancy and breast feeding are disturbing. The procedure usually involves abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) and breast lift, but it may also include buttock lift or augmentation, and thigh lift.
An abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) flattens the abdomen by removing excess fat and skin, and tightening muscles in the abdominal wall. It is usually performed with general anaesthesia, and it takes about two to five hours. The surgeon makes a long incision across the abdomen, and then separates the skin from the abdominal wall. After repositioning and tightening the abdominal muscles the excess skin is stretched and removed and the incision is sutured.
Breast lift (mastopexy) is a surgical procedure to raise and reshape breasts. It can also reduce the size of the areola (the darker are around the nipple). A breast implant may also be inserted in the same time to increase the size of the breasts.
A buttock lift removes excess skin and fat from the buttocks and lifts it into the correct position. This surgery can be combined with an augmentation to enhance the volume and shape of the buttock. It is usually performed under general anaesthesia.
A thigh lift removes excess tissue from the thighs and repositions them to tighten the upper thighs.
Complications and risks
Every surgery presents some complications and risks. The most common complications include: bruising, swelling, bleeding, blood clotting, infection, scarring and negative reaction to anaesthesia.
You can avoid most complications by choosing the right cosmetic surgeon and following pre- and postoperative instructions.
